Turkish Deaf Athletics Team which will attend Deaflympics 2017 with 15 athletes aims at least 5 medals. If the team reaches this target, they will pass the number of medals that they won until now.

Turkish Deaf Athletics Team is preparing in Eryaman, Ankara for Deaflympics 2017, which will be held between the dates of 18-30 of July. Turkey only won 1 gold nad 1 silver medal in this sport so far but in Samsun 5 medals is targeted to win.

Head Coach Salih Öztürk said that track and field teams had a total of 15 athletes to participate in the Games and Ayhan Ayata, Ahmet Sekman, and Burak Taş were the coaches.


Öztürk stated that the athletics team will compete in 100m, 200m, 400m, 4 x 400m relay, marathon, hammer throw, javelin throw, shot put and discus throw branches and that they have established an experienced team with the athletes who have sports history ranging between 5 to 10 years. Öztürk said: "We are expecting medals from 4x400m relay team, marathon, Yasin Süzen in 400m sprint individual, Muhammet Çakır in hammer throw, Yağmur Taş in hammer throw, Mahmut Kılıç in shot put."

Serdar Ortaç who will represent Turkey in 400m and 4x400m relay said: "My aim is to become a champion in 4x400m relay but taking the 3rd place is also a good success."
Athletics National Team will take the field and track for 23rd Summer Deaflympics on 23th of July.
