The number of staff speaking sign language increased within a short period of time due to the 23rd Deaflympics. Thus, the staff will be able to intervene in an emergency situation of hearing impaired people more quickly and healthily.

The volunteered medical staff who will participate in the 23rd Deaflympics taking place on 18-30 July are getting courses of sign language.

Four national medical rescue teams will take part in the competition, where 5000 people are expected to come to the town. The team consisting of five people will be ready to intervene in extraordinary circumstances like floods, earthquakes etc.

It is aimed to educate the medical staff who know the sign language thanks to the Olympics in health field where the communication with hearing impaired people is critical.

"I COULD NOT HELP BECAUSE I DID NOT KNOW THE SIGN LANGUAGE"

Zeynep Kuru who is a paramedic in 112 and is taking courses of sign language voluntarily said: "A year ago, I had a case of a hearing impaired person and I could not help him because I did not know the sign language and I got very upset."
The Olympics provided me to learn this language and I learned at a level that I can help another patient now. I'm so happy"

Within this scope, while all health workers, including the ones in all villages in Samsun, were informed about the Deaflympics, all emergency services and ambulances were also inspected. All health personnel 's leaves have been canceled due to Deaflympics which will last 13 days.

THE PROCESS HAVE STARTED IN DECEMBER

Director of Health Doping Control and Audiogram Dr. Ali Yılmaz who stated that the process was started with the proposition made by Department of Sanitation and the acceptance of him in December said:

"For the Deaflympics, we first shared an announcement in the form of a voluntary sign-up if there were those who wanted to learn sign language and we did not make it obligatory. We have started to train the staff on the sign language after contacting the Director of Deaf Federation.

WRONG INTERVENTIONS WERE MADE BEFORE

Sinan Yıldırım who is also a hearing-impaired person and sign language instructor stated that the uncommonness of this language cause many problems and added:

"I've been giving sign language courses for two weeks. I observe problems related to the sign language in our country. There were severe problems before, and wrong interventions were made. We should learn sign language and serve our hearing impaired people in our country. Not only in Samsun, but in all parts of Turkey, the sign language should be learned. When the Olympics are over, the health institutions must continue to learn this language. Not only institutions like health sector but also the notaries should be concerned about this language"

122 AMBULANCES, 1 OF WHICH IS AIR AMBULANCE WILL BE READY 

A total of 122 ambulances of which 61 from Samsun, 60 from other cities and 1 Air ambulance will be ready for emergencies during the23rd Summer Deaflympics.
