Mehmet Yavuz, 32, who started his sports career with football and who won two World Championships with the Deaf Football National Team, is now a golfer. Mehmet aims to be successful in the golf branch which was included in Deaflympics for the first time in Samsun.

Mehmet Yavuz, a deaf athlete who started football in 1997, first wore the national jersey in 2000. The 32-year-old athlete who won the championship with his teammates in the World Deaf Football Championship held in 2008 and 2012, now continues his career with golf.

Mehmet Yavuz, who has been in sports for 20 years, explained the decision to switch to golf:

"In 2017, I heard that the Olympics will include golf. Later, I started golf at the request of Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs who is also a golf fan. I think that golf is more comfortable, more individual, a sport that I can show myself better. I have decided to be a golfer because there are different dynamics than football and I want to represent Turkey in another branch in international arena"

The technical team of the Deaf Golf National Team draws attention to the importance of the experiences that the national golfers had. Head Coach Hamza Hakan Sayın, "‘We want the success that Mehmet achieved in youth setup of football." Coach Nüket Gürel stated that Mehmet Yavuz's already having national experience had a restful effect on other athletes and he also helped the technical team.

The medal competition in golf sport, which is added to Deaflympics with the 23rd Summer Deaflympics will be held in 18 to 30 July, in Samsun, will be held from 21 to 26 of July.
