Cycling competitions were very popular between 1880-1900 all around Europe and United States of America and was firstly included in 1896, Olympic Games. It has kept its popularity especially among the Europeans during the 20th century as a professional sport. Bike factories in France, Belgium, England, Italy and Spain played an important role in the promotion of Cycling in these Countries. Cycling sport has gained huge momentum thanks to the chain and gear system designed by J.K. Starley in 1885, and nowadays faster, smarter and lighter modern shaped bikes are designed by using the current technology. While Male amateur Cycling races have been included in Olympic Games programme since 1896, female Cycling races were first included in Olympic Games in 1984. This sport maintained its position as a professional sport among citizens in Europe within 20 years. Turkish Cycling Federation was established in 1923. Since then, it has organized cycling tours aimed at travelling the different regions. For the first time, Turkey participated in international competitions in cycling in Bulgaria in 1927.
