More than 3 thousand athletes from 97 countries will participate in the largest Deaflympics in history. Amidst the crowded squads and delegations, 5 countries attract attention by coming to Samsun with only one athlete.

More than 3 thousand athletes from 97 countries will participate in the 23rd Summer Deaflympics, scheduled to be held between 18-30 July. Many athletes will share their joy and sorrow with their teammates, but for 5 of the countries, this doesn't look possible, as Philippines, Malta, Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus, Yemen and Guatemala are sending only one athlete to Samsun.

The 19-year-old Abrianne Dominique Camus Nuevo, the first table tennis player Phillippines has sent abroad to an international competition, will struggle for the best result for her country.

George Vella from Malta, who became a silver medallist with Turkish athlete Önder Karakülah taking the gold in European Deaf Marathon held in Poland for the first time, is the only only representative of Malta. Another runner, Mohammed Abdullah Alkhawlani is the only athlete in Samsun from Yemen.

The 22-year-old Sergio Pablo Aragon, who also participated in Coimbra 2011 World Swimming Championship in Portugal and Sofia 2013 Deaflympics in Bulgaria, is the only Guatemalan in Samsun.

The 62-year-old Andreas Constantinou is the only athlete from Greek Administration of Southern Cyprus to compete in Samsun.

These 5 athletes will carry their countries' flags alone in the opening ceremony on the 18th of July in 19 Mayıs Stadium.
